When the actions of one person, no matter if they were accidental or deliberate, cause the death of another, surviving family members of the decedent might be entitled to collect financial compensation.

Tennessee personal injury laws enables members of the immediate family to seek financial reimbursement for funeral costs, burial expenses, lost wages that the decedent should have made during their working life, psychological trauma, loss of companionship, and loss of quality of life.

Under specific circumstances, where the action that caused the death was illegal, egregious, or malicious, a civil court might also allow members of the decedent’s immediate family to solicit punitive damages from the respondent.
